“SPRING POTPOURRI” Presented by the VENICE CONCERT BAND APRIL 24, 2017
On Monday, April 24, 2017 the Venice Concert Band under the direction of Bob Miller, will present their final of the season “Spring Potpourri” in the Venice Performing Arts Center. This concert will offer a wide variety band music from selections from George Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” to the film music in “A Disney Spectacular. In the Gershwin medley you will hear “I Got Plenty of Nuttin,” It Ain’t Necessarily So,” “Crab Man,” and Bess, You is My Woman.” The “Disney Spectacular” will feature music from “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Aladdin.” You will hear a wonderful programmatic selection entitled “To The Summit” by Robert W. Smith describing a person’s assent of the Alps. As well as Dr. Alfred Reed’s inspiring piece entitled ”Alleluia! Laudamus Te.” Featured soloists for the concert will be Dr. Robert Felman, Kim Campos, and Rick Louis. Dr. Felman will perform the “Concertino for Clarinet” by Von Weber. Soprano Kim Campos returns to the Venice stage with music by Richard Rodgers. She will perform “Blue Moon” as well as a medley of Rodger’s all time favorite Broadway hits like “The Sound of Music,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Wonderful Guy,” and “Climb Every Mountain.” Rick Louis will treat everyone to a flugelhorn solo “My Funny Valentine.”
Beginning at 6:00 on the night of the concert, general admission tickets will be sold at the box office of the Venice Performing Arts Center. The price of a general admission ticket is $7.00. The doors will open at 6:30.
