On Monday, November 6, at 7 PM, the Venice Concert Band will open their 2017 - 2018 concert season with a program entitled “American Salute.” The concert will begin with the patriotic “American Fanfare,“ followed by a beautiful ballad entitled “Purple Heart,” which is a tribute to fourteen soldiers who died in the Iraq War. Narrator Ted George will offer two patriotic stories accompanied by the band. If you enjoy marches, the band will be performing “Americans We” by Henry Fillmore and “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa. One of the features of every November concert is our tribute to the people who have made our freedoms possible - our veterans. The band will perform ”Armed Forces – Pride of America!” to honor our veterans. You will not want to miss the band’s performance of the “American Civil War Fantasy” by Florida resident Jerry Bilik. Some of the selections in this medley include “Capetown Races,” “ Dixie,” “ Battle Cry of Freedom,” “When Johnny Comes Marching Home, “ and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” There will be a remembrance of the victims of flight ninety-three that went down in Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001, when the band performs “Flight of Valor.” Another highlight of this concert is a performance of Alfred Reed’s “Rushmore,” inspired by the four faces on Mount Rushmore.
Please join the Venice Band on Monday, November 6, at 7 PM in the Venice Performing Arts Center for this wonderful tribute to America and our veterans.
