VENICE CONCERT BAND
NOVEMBER 5, 2018
On Monday, November 5, at 7 PM, in the Venice Performing Arts Center, the Venice Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Bob Miller, will open their 2017-2018 concert season with their program entitled “Honor America.” The concert will begin with the Presentation of the Colors and a special arrangement of the “Star Spangled Banner” sung by soprano Doreen Curp. The program is filled with patriotic selections from many different eras of American history. From World War I you will hear “Echoes from the Battlefield” featuring “Over There” and “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary.” The band will play several marches including “National Emblem,” “American Patrol,” and “Cradle of Liberty.” There will be an opportunity for the audience to honor the men and women who have served our various Armed Services as the band performs “Armed Forces Salute.” “American Legacy No. 1” honors our country with the songs “Shenandoah,” “Yellow Rose of Texas,” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.”
A highlight of this program will be our soprano soloist, Doreen Curp, singing “God Bless the USA” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” From the band’s opening piece, “Let Freedom Ring,” that features “Yankee Doodle,” Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” and “America,” to the finale, “Stars and Stripes Forever,” this will be a wonderful night to honor our country and the men and women, past and present, who have served in our Armed Forces.
Please join the Venice Band on Monday evening November 5 for this wonderful tribute to America and our veterans. Tickets will be available for online only purchases beginning October 22 at 9:00 AM through November 5 at 9:00 AM at the band’s website www.veniceconcertband.org or at the VPAC box office for cash on the night of the concert.
