Please join the Venice Concert Band on Monday, April 30, at 7:00 in the Venice Performing Arts Center as they present “Strike Up the Band,” their final concert of the season. This concert, under the direction of Bob Miller, will feature a vast variety of band music. Their program hopes to satisfy everyone’s musical tastes! With an opening of Gershwin’s all time favorite “Strike Up The Band” to Richard Wagner’s “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral,” this concert should really let the band shine. One of the featured selections on the program will be “Chorale and Shaker Dance,” a pieced based on the familiar folk song, “Simple Gifts.” And there will be quieter moments when the band plays “All The Pretty Little Horses” and some of the band members become vocalists.
The band welcomes a new soloist, Dennis Clark, to perform with them. Dennis will sing two selections: “The Power of the Dream” and “This Is The Moment.” Also featured at this concert will be the band’s trumpet section as they perform “The Summit.” Rounding out the concert will be “El Camino Real” by Alfred Reed and “Crooner’s Serenade,” which includes “Moondance,” I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and “Save the Last Dance For Me.” Two marches are programmed for this concert: “His Honor” by Henry Fillmore and “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa.
Tickets will be available online beginning April 16 at 9:00 AM through April 30 at 9:00 AM at the band’s website, <veniceconcertband.org> or on the night of the concert at the box office of the Venice Performing Arts Center for cash purchases only.
