Please join the Venice Concert Band on Monday, March 26, at 7:00 in the Venice Performing Arts Center for a night of music from many countries around the world. After the opening selection, “The Sinfonians” by Clifton Williams, the band will perform one of the feature works on this concert, “First Suite in Eb” for military band. This is a three-movement work by the British composer Gustav Holst. It has been a standard piece in the modern day’s band repertoire for many years. The band will travel to Scotland as they present the beautiful work “By Loch and Mountain,” a composition by Robert W. Smith based on the Irish folk song “I Know Where I’m Going.” When the concert journey’s to Spain, you will hear the music of Jose Padilla. His “El Relicario” is an energetic paso doble full of fiery rhythms and sweeping Spanish melodies.
A premier performance of “Cindy Variations,” written by Venice Band’s assistant conductor, Daniel Bowles, and based on the American folk song “Cindy, Cindy,” will be performed by Daniel on the euphonium. Trumpeter Rick Louis will perform Hoagy Carmichael’s “Star Dust” and soprano, Ginny Lindemann, will sing “My Heart Will Go On and On” from the movie, “Titanic.”
Bringing the concert to its conclusion will be a performance of the exciting and memorable “Poet and Peasant Overture” by Franz von Suppe.
Tickets will be available online beginning March 12 at 9:00 AM through March 26 at 9:00 AM at the band’s website, <veniceconcertband.org> or on the night of the concert at the box office of the Venice Performing Arts Center for cash purchases only.
